Hello Again,

Its been little over 2 and half years since I have posted here. To be honest its been that long since I visited this blog.

Have I thought about writing? Yes.
Did I miss writing? Yes, a lot.

What has kept me from posting was time, I haven’t given myself time to sit down and write. For the last 2.5 years I have been a little busy with the kids. Madison is in 3rd grade and has started playing travel softball and cheerleading. Beth started kindergarten and is playing soccer, t-ball and cheerleading as well. James is in his 2nd year of preschool and wants to do whatever activity we are at for the girls.

I figured this would be a good time to start writing again since we are all home for who knows how long and writing has always been a way for me to deal with stress. With all the uncertainly in the world I am finding myself more stressed then normal. I am teaching from home, Madison and Beth are in the midst of e-learning and they require lots of help, and James is 3, that one should be self explanatory.

So, the plan is to get here and write as much as I can!!

Sleep: We started using a dockAtot about 3 weeks ago and since then sleep has been amazing! He usually goes to bed around 730 wakes up around 1130 for a bottle and back out until 430 when he gets up for a diaper change and 2oz of formula and back out until 7am!
Diapers: Still on size 2’s.

3 months

_DSC3238
Weight: about 12lbs
Length: about 23in

Sleep: Sleep has become a little bit of a struggle. James was doing so great sleeping 9 hrs straight in his crib.. then he started waking up every 2hrs seemingly in pain. We have in the last 2 weeks figured out where that pain is coming from – his formula. We have tried a different formula and he is back to doing 6hrs straight, eats then sleeps for another 3-4hrs.
Diapers: Size 1’s! Thinking of switching to 2’s in the next few weeks to give him some more breathing room.

Clothes: Filling out the 3 month clothes nicely! We are getting great use out of all the outfits because he was spitting up so much with the allergy that he was wearing 3-4 outfits a day!

Mood: Since figuring out the formula he has become such a happy baby. There was a brief period that he was inconsolable, and stiff, so glad we’ve got our happy little baby back!
  • Being in the moby wrap
  • Car rides
  • Eating
  • When his sisters sing
  • Tummy time
 Hates:
  • Baths .. I am really hoping that changes
  • Diaper changes

2 months

I am about a week late with James’ 2 month update, I wanted to wait until his check up so I could record his measurements! img_6649

Weight: 10lbs 12oz (25th percentile)
Length: 22 3/4in (10th percentile)

Sleep: NO COMPLAINTS! James is a great sleeper! We moved him to his crib a few days before he turned 2 months old and he has been sleeping amazingly. He usually has his last bottle between 730 and 830 and is fast asleep by 9. He tends to wake up between 3-4 (sometimes 5 if we are lucky). He still sleeps a lot during the day but will be awake for 2 hour periods between feedings.
Eating:  James loves food! He is eating about 24oz of formula day! He is having some reflux issues so we are switching formulas to a heavier formula with added rice in hopes it will help keep the formula down, if not he will be prescribed zantac. We are zantac pros at this point.. both girls were on it!
Diapers: Size 1’s seem to be working well so at this point no need to change!
Clothes: James is comfortable rocking the 3 month clothing now! Newborns still could have been worn but I would rather have clothing little bit bigger on his then clothing that makes him look like 10lbs of flour in 5lbs sack!
Mood: Such a happy baby! James is full of smiles! He really only cries if he has some gas bubbles or if he is hungry!
Loves:
  • Being in the moby wrap
  • Car rides
  • Long walks with Bailey
  • Sitting in his bumbo seat
  • When his sisters play with him
  • Tummy time
 Hates:
  • Baths .. I am really hoping that changes
  • Waiting to be fed
  • A wet diaper – who wouldn’t hate that?

I thought I would share why we LOVE Essential Oils!

When I was pregnant with James I was struggling a lot with sleeping, headaches and anxiety over having 3 children. I followed a few other moms on instagram that all used oils  so I knew of oils but didn’t know much about them. I started researching safe ways to help sleeping and headaches and Essential Oils kept showing up in the research. During this time I also saw how useful the oils can be around our house, and that made me see how many chemicals we use in our everyday lives!

img_6468

I decided to order my starter kit from Young Living Essential Oils (10 of the most commonly used oils + a diffuser) and I started working the oils into my daily life. With the help of the book Gentle Babies, I was able to safely use & continue to use oils around my young children & newborn. Now I can’t feel like I can’t live without them! We have rollers for everything from immunity support to helping with hair growth!.. the girls even have a bedtime roller they ask for every night! I can’t say that we are totally chemical free and we still believe in modern medicine but using the oils makes me feel like we are taking a step in the right direction with my families health and wellbeing.

These two blend are probably the most used in our house! The girls struggled with sleep, they both had a hard time calming down at the end of the day and bed time turned into something we dreaded. Beth would get out of her room at least 6 times a night, while Madison would complain about Beth keeping her up. One little swipe of “slumber party” on their necks and big toes and its lights out! Mermaid hair is probably my favorite spray I have made so far, I use it on the girls and myself. Madison has very course and wavy hair (she takes after me) but her hair doesn’t grow! She is 5 and has had her hair trimmed 3 times and it is still only at the shoulders! I started spraying her hair morning and night (dry or wet) and in 3 weeks noticed 3/4in of growth!

3 week difference

This week on Tuesday, I will be doing an “instastory” about how we use oils everyday! So follow me on instagram to get a peek into our world!

If you don’t already use oils and are interested in using them let me know, I can help you get started!

1 Month

img_6012What a first month – James got to celebrate his first christmas, first new years and first bridal shower – all of which he slept through.

Weight: 8lbs 7oz (38th percentile)
Length: 21 1/2in (9th percentile)

Sleep: James takes after his big sisters in the sleep department! He sleeps so well! He has slept through the night a few times. I consider 6-7hrs of sleep through the night! It is amazing how much more human you feel once you stop waking up every 2-3 hours!
_DSC3172.JPG
Eating:  Considering a month ago James was being fed through a feeding tube I would say we are doing pretty good! He gets a combination of newborn formula and breastmilk. We are not breastfeeding because of the issues he had a birth. I started pumping while in the hospital and we’ve just stuck with that. It is working well for us but I think we will be shifting to formula only in the next month or 2.
Diapers: Size 1’s! We used our 2 packs of newborns and then jumped up to the 1s. It is just easier to use the ones that are a little bigger and he has more room to move in instead of a tiny diaper and it being tight around his little waist.
Clothes: I think it is fairly obvious that our children are not massive. James is wearing newborn size clothing and will not be wearing bigger sizes anytime soon.
Mood: I would say happy most of the time! He really only cries when he is hungry or he peed! He hates a wet diaper!
Loves:
  • When Madison and Beth sing to him
  • Being in the carseat
  • Long car rides & walks – he falls asleep
  • Being walked around
  • Cuddles
Hates:
  • Being hungry
  • Baths 😦
  • Being wet .. cries over the tinniest amount of pee in his diaper.
